1861 Tudor vernacular. 2 storeys rubble (brick below loggia). ‘L’ plan with Nos 18 and 19 Church Street (qv). The main front has a covered porch loggia to 1st floor, 5 stone arches to ground floor, 5 gables above in partly catslide roof. Tiled roof, 2 stone ridge stacks with 8 paired chimneys each. 4 ranges of 2 light casement windows with block surrounds and 4 doors, paired in centre, on each level. 2 gables in right hand block facing Union Street (Vergers’ Cottages), with 1 external stepped chimney stack.
The Union Street Almshouses and street wall with No 9 Union Street, St James’ Hall, Nos 16 to 19 (consec) Church Street and the National Schools form a group.+
