6/44 The Old School House



Former village school, now detached house. Circa 1850. Squared and coursed rubble with stone dressings and stone slate roof with lateral ashlar stacks in tall pairs to end walls. Cotswold vernacular style in conscious imitation of Village Farmhouse apposite (q.v.). Two-storey, 3-window north front with outer upper windows under gables. Windows are chamfered cross-mullions with hoodmoulds to ground floor and 2-light cross-mullions to upper, all with small pane leaded casements. Central gabled porch with Tudor- arched entrance and 6-panel door. Rear C20 wing in similar style; wing to left not of special interest.
