Rectory, now detached house. 1844-46 by J. Hicks. Random rubble stone, stone slate roof with coped verges and good stone stacks; some octagonal. C16 style. Rambling L-plan. Two-storey, 6-window east front. Two-storey gabled porch with Tudor-arched opening and first floor oriel, to left of centre, heraldic arms to gable, conservatory with arched mullioned casements to left with 2-light and single-light casements with arched lights to first floor, gabled bay to right has 6-light mullioned and transomed casement to ground floor and 4=light first floor mullioned casement; all with cast-iron latticed glazing and relieving arches, first floor string courses. Range to right has plainer chamfered mullioned casements. Left return, garden front has large canted stone bay to right with 3-light mullioned and transomed casement with arched lights and battlemented parapet, range to left has two shouldered doorways and two cross windows, first floor has 3-light mullioned and transomed casement and 2-light mullioned casement to left, 3- light mullioned casement with arched lights over bay to right. Rear services with plain 2-light mullioned casements, gabled stair turret to right has cross window with arched lights, gabled bellcote to roof. Interior: good quality original fittings retained, including Tudor-arched stone doorways with 8-panelled oak doors, stairs with thick twisted balusters, square newels, arched opening in landing wall with stone quatrefoiled balcony. Tudor-arched fireplaces throughout, especially elaborate one in drawing room has octagonal columns to quatrefoiled frieze, drawing room also has plaster ceiling frieze. Dining room with rib-panelled wooden ceiling on carved wooden angel corbels, stone Tudor-arched alcoves on attached shafts. Good example of gothic-style rectory. (N..
