A row of cottages, now divided into 3. C18. Timber-framed, partly rendered, partly flint and stone, partly refronted in brick; mansard roof with old plaintiles to the lower slope and pantiles to the upper slope. 2 internal chimney-stacks with plain red brick shafts. Nos 26 and 28 have a rendered upper storey and a ground storey of random flint and stone. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. 4 window range: 3 small-paned 2-light casements and one C20 single-light window. 2 Edwardian 3-light mullion-and-transom type windows to the ground storey with heavy timber frames and cornices. 2 flat-headed lead covered dormers with 2-light single bar casements. 2 C20 ledged and battened doors in plain segmental-arched surrounds. A stone panel let into the ground storey wall of No.28 bears the date 1777, and a plaque between the doors records ‘These two cottages were restored by Bury St Edmunds Town Trust, 1981’. No.29 has a front of painted brick with a parapet and moulded cornice; a brick band runs between the storeys. 3 windows to the 1st storey: 12-pane sashes in plain reveals with flat arches. A shop window on the ground storey with a doorway to each side of it, a 16-pane sash window to the left and a 12-pane sash window to the right in a slightly lower section of the front. INTERIOR: not inspected.
