House, now divided into 2 shops on the ground storey with separate living accommodation above. C16 and C17 with C18 and C19 alterations. Timber-framed and rendered; plaintiled roof with twin gables facing the street. L-shaped plan with a long rear wing. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics; cellar to part; 4 window range: 12-pane sashes in moulded flush cased frames with a coved and moulded stucco cornice above. The twin gables each have plain bargeboards, C19 hanging finials and 2-light square-leaded C18 casement windows. On the ground storey an off-centre C18 entrance door with 6 sunk panels, partly glazed, is set in a doorcase with plain reveals, moulded and eared architrave, cornice and triangular pediment. To the left of the door, a 12-pane sash window and to the right a double shop-front, in early C19 style, but inserted in the mid-C20. INTERIOR: cellar (below 20A), lined with old brick, has 3 arched openings and a timber ceiling. No.20 extends into a long rear range and has ceiling heights at different levels from those in No.20A. The rear range is in 2 phases, one C16, in 2 bays, the other C17, with a linking chimney-stack. On the 1st storey the C16 part has the remains of studding for the former end wall, including the frame of a 3-light original window with small square mortices for moulded mullions and a rebate for a shutter. This window was blocked by a C17 chimney-stack with 3 further timber-framed bays beyond it: the trusses have tie-beams with long arched braces. No.20A has the main ceiling beams with a double ogee moulding in the shop area and walls with flush panels and bolection moulded surrounds. The attic rooms on the street frontage have old 2-light casement windows with square leaded panes and ornate wrought-iron fittings.
